The Earth is a loving and nurturing mother who tends to our needs and tries to provide a healthy environment in which we can grow and flourish. In turn, many of us act as petulant and ungrateful children who stamp our feet and insist that our way of doing things is the only way. We are like that toddler screaming through a tantrum, insisting on too much candy and throwing the broccoli on the floor. If we take the time to watch the events unfolding around us, we can learn what the Earth wants us to do. Oil spills and earthquakes that threaten nuclear power plants are signs that we should heed. The Earth tells us that the wind, the water, and the sun can provide all the energy we could ever want and can do so without threatening to end our physical existence. When we live in harmony with the Earth, we enjoy her nurturing, loving embrace. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. The spirit of the Earth and the spirits of those who inhabit her are intricately interwoven. She is here to sustain us, and we are here to care for her. When we maintain respect and gratitude for her many gifts, we find that we work toward the mutual goal of growing our spirits within this physical plane. When we ignore her and pollute beyond her capacity to clear that pollution, we put both the Earth and ourselves in the way of peril. We would not like it if someone came into our home and tossed garbage all over the floor, burned substances that released noxious gasses, and befouled our water supply, and yet that is what so many of those who live on the Earth are doing to the planet with no regard to future generations. We need to start recognizing our bond with the Earth, and live up to our ancient agreement to live with her in reverence and peace. (Art by Joy Argento; https://www.redbubble.com/shop/artbyjoy) The Earth is a present that we have given ourselves to provide our physical beings a place to learn the lessons we chose to learn in this dimension. As such, we should take care to treat the planet upon which we work, play, and rest, like the amazing, sustaining creature that she is. Just our presence here changes her daily, but she was created to compensate for our being here. For example, the trees and plants live in symbiosis with us. We breathe in the oxygen they provide, they absorb the carbon dioxide we exhale. They also cleanse the air as well as the ground of pollutants. The problems occur when there are too many pollutants in the air and the ground for the trees to handle. Then they get sick and even die, which is what can happen to us if the planet becomes too polluted for it to clean itself. We should honor and respect that the spirits of the trees live as one with our spirits. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. It might make the moment better, but in the long run one drop will only prolong the flower’s misery. When we come together and shower the flower with many drops of water, the flower revives and thrives and can, in turn, share its beauty and fragrance with the All. When we join together to create change, all things are possible—the sick are healed, the sad are given solace, the bereaved are comforted, the downtrodden are lifted up. When we work together for a common purpose, mountains can be moved or reduced to mole hills once again. Joining together in harmony, peace, and love, we can change the world. Are we responding negatively to a person because that person has just apparently wronged us or did that person, on the third of May in 1873, injure us in some way, and our current reaction is a response to that? When someone cuts us off in traffic and we respond with irritation, is this the first time our paths have crossed, or is this some sort of payback for a time when we cut them off somehow in a previous life? We rarely know the answers to these questions, because we rarely, from moment to moment, remember our past lives and deeds. Therefore, it is much better to act in love, peace, kindness, compassion, and generosity, not simply because we then expect to receive the same in turn, but because doing so increases the positive energy within the Interdependent Web. When we act from the heart, we receive from the hearts of others. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. (Art by Joy Argento; https://www.redbubble.com/shop/artbyjoy) We live in a world that is plagued by apparent scarcity—not enough resources to sustain the physical manifestations that populate it. This is an illusion. While we chose to be born into an environment of plenitude or poverty, which will inform our growth during this lifetime, we must become aware that the nature of the universe is one of abundance. In this we must awaken, not only to the idea that what we need already exists, waiting for us to ask and to position ourselves to receive, but also that by giving to others, even in small ways, we become part of a cycle of giving and receiving. While I was writing this, the phone rang. The woman from the American Red Cross reminded me that I am eligible to give blood at an upcoming drive. This confirms by synchronicity the veracity of this blog entry’s message—we are part of the universal sea of abundance—it is in giving that we open ourselves to receive. In meditation, we allow the monkey mind to play all it wants while we simply sit, aware of its antics, but without judgment, concern, or worry. In meditation, in whatever form we choose, we access the self that knows it has the potential to become a buddha, an awakened one. The Buddha said, “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” When we follow his advice, we come to awareness of the illusion of anything that is not of this moment. We cannot change that which is in the apparent past, nor can we control what is to come in the illusion of future. We can only give ourselves completely and confidently to now. Without judgment, we accept with no mind all potential. In allowing ourselves to sit in this moment, we become one with the All within the Interdependent Web. (Art by Joy Argento; https://www.redbubble.com/shop/artbyjoy) Our spirits contain the cumulative experiences of many lifetimes. Our strengths and weaknesses are not formed by this lifetime alone. A certain circumstance may bring us to a level of discomfort and unease that we cannot explain by the actual conditions we are experiencing. When we find ourselves confronted by these overwhelming feelings, disproportionate to the circumstances, we need not only to seek the help of those trained to determine the current root of the problem, we also need to be still and allow our minds to reach toward our spirits and thus to connect with the larger being of which we are a part and which is comprised and informed by all that we have ever been, in all time and space. When we are able to combine the knowledge gained through consultation both on the physical and spiritual planes, we are able to discern the root of our distress and can begin to heal. Diligence combined with patience can reap a deeper understanding of self and spirit. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. (Art by Joy Argento; https://www.redbubble.com/shop/artbyjoy) When you have attained a lesson, mastered a concept or understanding of this world in which we exist at this moment, it is appropriate for you to share this knowledge. The Creative Spirit informs us to use creativity to express our experiences on this plane. Even if you are not a master musician or artist of some sort, remember, few are so gifted with such a high level of ability. Yet, you are able to creatively share, if not through the arts, then through your actions—you can help to create a new paradigm. Have you learned kindness from the action of another? Then share kindness with those around you. In a time of need, did you receive compassion and learn from its tender embrace? Then turn around and share compassion, reaching your heart to aid a person in need. And, when you have learned selfless love, send forth from your heart that energy that flows freely across the Interdependent Web. (Art by Joy Argento; https://www.redbubble.com/shop/artbyjoy) As we examine our life and our lives, we find certain notes that keep sounding, that repeat over and over again because we are not quite grasping the lessons within the experiences. From one life to another, we are given certain opportunities to learn and to grow from that learning. These lessons are not imposed by a willful entity, but instead, are ones we ourselves know we must learn in order to grow and attain the next level of awareness. When we find ourselves repeating patterns of behavior, especially those that provide a measure of discomfort in their repetition, we need to stop and examine what it is in those experiences that is similar and discern what lesson it is we are ignoring in our haste to move to the next moment. When we live a truly examined life, we find our lives informed by the Creative Spirit. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list.
