Ghost! Say the word and images of Halloween terror movies or TV paranormal investigators come to mind. The former have little to do with the actual state of being that a ghost is, and the latter may detect ghosts for entertainment purposes, but then do not clear the area of this energy. A ghost is an imprint or an echo of a spirit left in a location that either they enjoyed in life or was the scene of its body’s passing from this plane. Ghosts normally repeat a pattern of behavior, like a video loop. They do not communicate as a spirit would. If you try to engage them in conversation, they do not respond to you, but rather may make unintelligible sounds, words, or phrases that express no obvious meaning. Ghosts are usually easily removed from a space by cleansing the area with sage, lighting white candles, utilizing the energy of clear quartz crystals, and, simply, asking the ghost to leave the area. Most times, this dissipates the energy, and a sense of peace and calm is left in the area cleansed. During an investigation I took part in with Ed and Lorraine Warren, the well-known paranormal investigators, we detected the ghosts of six female students and a janitor whose spirits passed during a fire at the Fredonia Normal School in the early 1900s. After noting their presence, we said prayers and released the ghosts from the area. Ghosts are different than spirits who are trapped on this side for one reason or another. Those spirits need to be released and helped to go to the other side to rejoin their soul group and get on with their lives.
