December 21: A Renaissance of Light

Celebrate! The darkness has reached its full depth and the sun awaits in solitude to be reborn. Even though the daylight hours will not seem any longer for some time, we know that in reality, the sun will soon start to wend its way higher in the sky until, six months from now, we will be celebrating its zenith and coming descent. But, at this moment, we are in the midst of the Winter Solstice. As we sit in anticipation, we may hear the far off crunch of snow, the ringing of bells, the singing of holiday tunes, or the crackling of the hearth fire. From the depth of the silence and the darkness, we become aware of the dawning of hope kindled by the promise of a renaissance of light.
