Kahlil Gibran wrote that children “come through you but not from you.” We must constantly remember that these small beings whose bodies our bodies formed, are also spirits who existed before this incarnation as ageless entities and will continue as such after this earthly expression is completed. We live in our highest commitment to the interdependent web of existence when we nurture not simply their physical bodies, but their spirit selves as well. When we acknowledge, celebrate, and honor their independence as beings with whom we share this moment in this space, we come to realize our oneness as equal expressions of the Creative Spirit, formed by and sustained in love.
