Standing at dawn on a cold fall day, the trees are almost bare and waiting, arms lifted, for the first snow to fall. We, too, await the moment when the world around us goes to sleep and we are freed temporarily from our attempts to manipulate nature to suit our aesthetic and practical needs. Once again, it is time to honor nature by feeding those who need sustenance in this time of limited resources. Bird feeders supply seeds for those who so easily connect earth to sky. And we open our hearts wider to our fellow travelers upon this path who need our help to survive this barren season. In this quiet, we may regain our sense of purpose in the wider plan, becoming nurturers to nature and each other, and give thanks!
