When we meditate, we try to shift our focus from the constant attention to many disparate thoughts to one single idea or action. We can concentrate on our breath or a candle or a word. As we strive to contemplate this singular focal point, we find that our brains start to jump on every possible idea that floats through our perception: What is for dinner? Can I get the plants all potted today? Did I pay that bill? I wonder if it is going to rain . . . . On and on, we find our concentration impeded by an odd jumble of distractions. Oh, then, how are we benefiting from sitting down to meditate daily? Learning to let go of these ideas and bringing ourselves back to our focus, even if in a five minute meditation we find ourselves needing to do so dozens of times, it is the act of showing up and the attempt that allows us to grow through the experience. We can imagine these ideas departing from our minds wrapped in bubbles that float away, allowing us to experience the gap between thought that is the goal of meditation. In that moment of no thought, we find ourselves in peaceful coexistence with the Creative Spirit. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. (Art by Joy Argento)

When we speak of freedom and especially the lack thereof, we most often do so in relation to those at a distance who are suffering from conditions of poverty, slavery, or tyranny. These obvious manifestations of lack of choice and freewill invite us to consider those in such restricted circumstances and may inspire us to take action to alleviate the victims’ suffering. Often, though, we remain oblivious to the instances of lack of freedom around us and the consequences of this limited state of being. When we limit the equality of freedoms of some in society for whatever differences we may perceive, we limit our own freedom to enjoy equality as well as to freely express and experience our unique experience of this incarnation. Spirits living within the interdependent web are inspired and encouraged to pursue the blessings inherent in the state of being free. When there is a lack of equality, by definition, no one is equal. While spirit in any form, incarnate or discarnate, is not an infallible, omniscient being, asking spirit for guidance and input is really not that much different than asking a trusted friend for help. When we find ourselves needing a second opinion about an impending decision, or solace in a moment of need, we can turn to spirit by simply asking for help. The answers may appear in different forms. Sometimes, we hear a voice that is not our own sharing loving advice. Other times we may find that spirit is communicating through the portal of synchronicity, when by “coincidence” we encounter the same word or thought simultaneously or repeatedly over the course of a day or two. And sometimes, we find ourselves being led to make a decision regarding direction, like walking into a bookstore we had no intention of visiting and finding a book that addresses our questions and concerns. Trust yourself to trust spirit. The communication is always rooted in the energy of love. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. (Art by Joy Argento) When we listen carefully, we realize that guidance is always available to help us traverse our path through this life. We are not alone on this path and knowing this basic truth can alleviate much stress, worry, and concern. In the midst of our darkest moments when we feel the most lost and confused by the events unfolding around us, we need to remember to ask for help from not only each other, but also from those in spirit, especially our spirit guide(s). Some people have one spirit guide and others have a “committee” of spirits ready and able to help at a moment’s notice. Spirit guides are with us from before we are born into this incarnation and generally stay with us until we reach the other end of this journey. Sometimes, spirit guides are people we spent time with in a shared incarnation who decide that they will remain on the other side of the veil to experience the option of acting as the guide. Spirit guides help us to keep our footing on the path through this incarnation. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. (Art by Joy Argento) Our place in the universe is secured not simply for today, but forever. We exist as eternal spirits within the larger Creative Spirit. When we finally become cognizant of and adhere to this concept we can begin to live fully as active aspects of this all-encompassing reality. We can then cease to believe we are limited beings, limited by a temporary physical expression, and instead realize we can become co-creators of the vision of the Creative Spirit at the moment of creation. This vision is one of abundance, not only of that which fulfills our physical needs, but also the abundance of that which fulfills our spiritual needs . . . compassion, empathy, kindness, and love. This abundance already exists but, because of our need to learn, we are required to tap into it in order that it be given expression on the plane upon which we are manifesting at this moment. Know you are a creature of abundance, now and forever. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. (Art by Joy Argento) What does it mean to be a spiritual being having a physical experience? We are essential spirits. We were created when the Creative Spirit brought into being all that is. We visit many planes of experience as we journey through eternity. In each incarnation, our spirit takes on physical, emotional, and mental characteristics that further our progression and enhance our learning. We are connected within the interdependent web, which sustains and informs us as our spirit exists in many forms. This web allows us to exist both as individual spirits in whatever form we are experiencing and as part of the One, able to communicate and share our compassion, empathy, and kindness. In every manifestation of our being, we are sustained and informed by the energy of love. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. (Art by Joy Argento) This choice to perceive ourselves as separate beings may serve to enhance our learning on this plane, but it does not preclude that we also, at the same time, are thoroughly connected to each other and to the larger spirit that sustains us. As such, we have a responsibility to recognize that we are here to learn from each other and to treat each other with compassion, empathy, and kindness. When we are aware of one in need, it is our duty as members of the All, to lend a hand and become a source of solace. And when we find ourselves in need, we should allow others to know this, so that their learning may also increase by coming to our aid. Live with compassion toward yourself and others! The trials and tribulations that threaten our peace and comfort are really illusions, set before us to teach us the lessons we have chosen to learn in this incarnation. The brick wall that has emerged before you as you are trying to accomplish a goal is not there to discourage you from continuing, but rather, it has been created (by you) to challenge your motivation, commitment, and level of passion for the task at hand. The brick wall is there as an invitation to become more than you are, to learn what you are capable of being and becoming, and to test your commitment to the process involved in reaching your goal. If you fail to break down this wall, it is your choice, and if you take it apart or shatter its apparent solidity, it is also your choice. You are free to create your own reality and to change it at any time. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. (Art by Joy Argento) Our lives are best lived when we remain constantly aware of our existence in the interdependent web that informs and sustains us. With this awareness, we can avoid becoming mired in the sticky, muddy illusions of the moment. When we live in darkness, shielding ourselves from our participation in something far larger than our individual physical self, we are faced with constant worry and the deception that we are not in control of our lives. We thus prevent our progress and growth as we focus on the challenges that seem to populate our lives like uncontrolled weeds. When we live in the light, aware that we are not alone and that our existence is part of a larger plan, we can let go of fear and worry and securely seat ourselves in the verdant garden of peace, sustained by the all pervasive energy of love. We are free to choose bliss and joy! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list. (Art by Joy Argento) We can touch in with the universal flow when we sit quietly and allow our thoughts to become quiet and our breath to support our body, which contains our spirit. When we become thus centered, we find ourselves floating effortlessly as a being whose expression is in part physical and in part spiritual and, as such, we can attain the realization that we are not simply a being with a busy, monkey mind, but, indeed a part of that which is sometimes called deity—that which is larger than us and at the same time that of which we are an integral part. Finding this awareness within the spiritual core of our being allows us to compose and comport ourselves through each day as knowing participants in the interdependent web. From this knowing, we can act and react in compassion, empathy, kindness, and peace. When we realize we are all spirits having a physical experience, we can interact with each other through the energy of love. Namaste! https://www.tobiehewitt.com/contact.html to join my mailing list.
